School
and Educational Reform
More
than 50 researchers, early-career scholars and school psychologists
gathered at the School Psychology Research Collaboration Conference
in April 2003 to carve out future directions in school and educational
psychology research. This is an important thing to be happening.
Psychology has much to offer educators in regards to how children
learn.
Dr.
Cynthia Belar, Executive Director of APA’s Education Directorate,
stated that education research is a major pillar of education
reform and that Psychology---a core discipline in the educational
sciences—needs to attract talented scientists from many
of its sub-areas to conduct research related to education. Organizers
hope the conference will be held every other year, with the next
one being planned for 2005.
I
expect to be part of that conference and will keep my readers
apprised of this.
